JAIMS Hardware/Software Requirements
The JAIMS software is a client server software application designed for
Minnesota Detention facilities. The software operates in a Windows®
environment and uses Microsoft® SQL Server 2000 database. The software also
uploads to CrimNet on a nightly basis via ftp.
Software Standards
Desktop Operating Systems:
Windows® 98, Windows® 2000, Windows® XP Professional, or
NT® 4.0 Service Pack 5 or higher.
Word Processor Software:
Microsoft® Word 97, 2000, or XP. All users within the same installation must have
the same version to avoid backward compatibility issues.
Internet Browser:
All personal computers must have Windows Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher
installed.
Database Software:
Microsoft® SQL Server 2000
Requirements for the CrimNet Upload:
A JAIMS CrimNet utility will be loaded on the SQL Server that will transmit
data to the state on a nightly basis. The SQL Server must have access to
the Internet.
Hardware and Software Backup:
A nightly backup should be performed with backup hardware and software of
the client's choice.
Hardware Standards
Note: There is a great deal of flexibility when it comes to setting or
recommending hardware standards, much depends on the users environment, network
traffic, the number of applications running the SQL Server, how many software
applications are used at the same time at the desktop level, bandwidth,
networking speed, and the desired speed users wish to obtain. Please
consider your local environment as it pertains to the information below:
Minimum Standard for Personal Computers:
Expectation: Software will be functional, no other applications should be
open at the same time, and users are willing to tolerate some delay between
screens or during large searches.
Pentium II/300 MHZ with 64 MB of RAM, minimum of 50 MB free
hard disk space
Minimum SQL Server 2000 Server Specifications:
Pentium II/500 MHZ with 256 MB of Ram
Recommended Personal Computer Standards:
Expectation: Users want to robustly use all their software
applications, may have several applications open at once, and desire the least
amount of delay between screens and queries.
Pentium IV/1.2 GHZ or higher with 128 MB RAM or higher,
minimum of 50 MB free hard disk space. Windows® 2000 or Windows® XP
Recommended SQL Server 2000 Server Specifications:
Pentium IV/1.2 GHZ with 512 MB of RAM or higher.
